Dr. Haiyang Li graduated from
Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine with honor in 1983. He
completed his medical residency at Shanghai Longhua Hospital, and Research
Institute of Acupuncture and Meridians, the teaching and research
facilities of the University. He then taught for a year at Shanghai
International Acupuncture Training Center, a most prestigious acupuncture
training establishment sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Later, he came to the U.S. for his graduate studies and obtained a M.S. in
Rehabilitation from UW and a Ph.D. In Advanced Research of Acupuncture and
Oriental Medicine from ALU.
He has been a most respected Chinese medicine practitioner in the Greater
Baltimore Area. He has trained hundreds of American acupuncturists during
his teaching as a professor at Maryland Institute of Traditional Chinese
Medicine from 1993 through 2002. He is also a mentor and research
consultant of University of Maryland Medical School since 1994. He gives
exemplary acupuncture instructions to medical interns and residents. He
has performed all the acupuncture treatments for the highly respected
"Acupuncture Research on Knee Osteo-Arthritis (Phase I)" funded by NIH
and is a co-author of "A Randomized Trial of Acupuncture as an Adjunctive
Therapy in Osteoarthritis of the Knee" (Rheumatology, 1999). He has been
voted as a top acupuncturist by Washingtonian Magazine repeatedly since
March, 1998. He served as a Professional Member on the Maryland
Acupuncture Board from 1998 until 2007, and received a Citation of
Appreciation signed by the Governor, State Secretary, and Executive
Director of the Board for his outstanding service during his term.
